winemaking notes

The growing season itself was idyllic. Mild temperatures, no heat spikes, and steady maritime winds, courtesy of Sonoma County’s western edge and 12,000 miles of Pacific Ocean, created a near-perfect environment for the vines. Spring rains filled the soil profile and fueled lush, upright growth, keeping canopies active deep into the season. It was a year vines seemed to truly enjoy. But ease in the vineyard isn’t always the winemaker’s dream. We know great wines often come from vines under just the right amount of stress. With healthy soils and full profiles, this meant paying close attention to our soil moisture, canopy observations, and weather station data to precisely manage water throughout the season. Even in a “happy vine” year, we nudged them toward balance with the crop load with careful, site-specific irrigation decisions. tasting notes This Sauvignon Blanc showcases clean fruit and balance, while leaning more into stone fruit and melon with a defined mineral component. It is fresh, approachable, and precise. This pairs well with seafood, especially grilled fish or shrimp, as well as salads, light pastas, and dishes with fresh herbs. Also, a great match for goat cheese or mild, creamy cheeses.

Tasting Notes:

2023 Grace & Grit Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel

In the glass, this Zinfandel shows a deep ruby core with a vibrant garnet rim. The color intensity reflects both the ripeness of Dry Creek Valley fruit and the wine’s youthful energy.

The nose opens with lifted aromas of fresh blackberries, sun-warmed raspberries, and dark cherry preserves. Layers of cracked black pepper, dried herbs, and subtle hints of cocoa and vanilla bean emerge with air, showcasing a balance between fruit purity and nuanced spice.

The entry is generous and fruit-driven, led by flavors of ripe boysenberry, red currant, and plum compote. Mid-palate, the wine gains complexity with notes of clove, allspice, and a faint cedarwood accent from well-integrated oak. The natural acidity of Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel keeps the palate lively, while the fruit concentration carries impressive depth.

Medium to full-bodied with supple tannins that are polished yet supportive, giving structure without overshadowing the fruit. The texture is mouth-coating but not heavy, offering both power and finesse—true to the “grace and grit” spirit.

A long, persistent finish lingers with flavors of blackberry, cherry compote, and a dusting of baking spice. The balance of freshness and richness invites another sip and promises continued evolution with short-term cellaring.

Perfect alongside wood-fired pizzas, barbecue ribs, or hearty pasta with wild mushrooms and herbs. It also shines with aged cheeses like Manchego or Pecorino.
